Two benches: Treasury (Proposition) and Opposition
Each team comprises of two members: Speaker 1 and Speaker 2. In a team, one speaker should go for the motion and the other speaker should go against the motion.
Members must argue either for (Treasury) or against (Opposition) the motion, with each team contributing one member each to both benches.
Opening Speeches:
Treasury Speaker 1: 6 minutes to introduce and define the motion, outline key arguments, and present the team’s case.
Opposition Speaker 1: 6 minutes to respond to the Treasury’s case, challenge the definition if necessary, and present the Opposition’s arguments.
Second Speeches onwards:
Treasury Speakers: 5 minutes each to strengthen the case, rebut the Opposition’s arguments, and develop the team’s position.
Opposition Speakers: 5 minutes each to reinforce the Opposition’s stance, rebut the Treasury’s case, and consolidate arguments.
Closing Speeches:
Opposition Speaker 1: 3 minutes to summarize the Opposition’s case, focusing on why they should win.
Treasury Speaker 1: 3 minutes to summarize the Treasury’s case, emphasizing key points and rebuttals.
Speakers exceeding their time will be asked to conclude promptly and will be penalised in the judgement criteria.
For Rebuttal round, time allotted will be 10 mins (max).
For Rebuttals, all speakers are encouraged to directly address arguments made by the opposing team.
Rebuttals should focus on logical inconsistencies, evidence, or contradictions.
Participants must maintain respect and professionalism at all times.
